To those who might think that horse racing is littered with one dimensional people with two bit plans, the incredible outpouring of grief on hearing the heartbreaking news that Michael Owen’s Brown Panther had to be put down showed that the sport has a heart and those that follow it are its heartbeat. Reading the line, “I was with him when he was born and I gave him his last kiss goodbye” was particularly gut wrenching.

It’s like being that hamster on a treadmill where you keep going and going and going, but feel you’re going nowhere, which is like giving and giving and giving and getting nothing in return. Put these all together and you’re reminded of Lennon cutting through the Yeah Yeahs and with that voice of resignation singing, “I’m so tired, I don’t know what to do,” cursing Sir Walter Raleigh, probably for his daft act of chivalry, before deciding that enough was enough and went from being a weekend warrior and radical peacenik before realising that baking bread and being a househusband and father to his Beautiful Boy was far more important.

What do you mean that Justin Bieber’s back?

It’s his “Happy” in that it’s simple in its infectiousness, and has that added twist of having his millions of fans wonder, “But what does HE mean and who’s this song for and about? Selena Gomes?”

The track “What Do You Mean” has arrived at a time when Justin Bieber was looking perilously close to being another Scott Baio or a one man-child Hanson. The non-stop stories of arrests and fights with the everyone and everything that came in his way was making many write him off as a kid once known more for his hairstyle than anything else other than a savvy backstory of having been “discovered” by Usher when the R’nB star was trawling through YouTube, and who then became his mentor. Sorry, but I didn’t buy any of that bollocks for a second. It has always appeared to be a great slice of hype pie concocted by Scooter Braun, the brash and opportunist manager of The Bieb, who once worked for Jermaine Dupri. And whatever happened to Jermaine Dupri?

THE PROBLEM WITH BEYONCÉ AND WHAT’S SHE AND EVERYONE ELSE GOT TO DO WITH MUSIC

I was listening to a couple of tracks recorded by the Beatles today that are somewhat obscure- “I’ll Be Back”, “You Can’t Do That”, “Rain” with it’s brilliant false ending, and “I’m Looking Through You” as part of my ongoing “therapy” to stay true to music, and believe that there’s a light at the end of a very long and dark tunnel that seems to be taking us where we honestly don’t wish to go. But having been mentally harpooned and force-fed glutinous amounts of bollocks, we’ve not only been blinded by the light, we’ve been so dazzled by bullshit, we are happy to go for a ride with no questions asked.

Back in the day, there was networking, there’s always been that utter waste of time and space that’s “nutworking”, and in today’s social media-driven world, there is online networking where nothing is real and there’s everything to get hung up about.

It’s John Lennon’s “Strawberry Fields Forever”, but this time, where a song becomes part of lifestyle, and where everyone is invited to connect the dots with no one quite sure what the end picture will look like- and which is the challenge and excitement of arriving at something that might go viral- that elusive something everyone wants, but which no one knows how to get there as it’s all down to what clicks with today’s consumers. THE DEATH OF MUSIC

Music is a secret door to our past. It’s that simple. But, somehow, and somewhere over the rainbow, it’s been so over-complicated that it has lost its innocence, its heart, its soul and its reason for being. It’s what happens when something so personal becomes a business, and that business, needing to grow, feeds one with the notion that it needs to be shared, and this sharing gets so outta hand that the originators of this music no longer have any say or control over what they should own.
