The conversation was about how during, especially the Fifties, so many American actresses somehow adopted very British accents- almost posh. Grace Kelly and Audrey Hepburn come to mind. I guess it gave them a “class distinction”. But then again, both actresses radiated class.
Grace Kelly and Audrey Hepburn were different to the all-American goodness of Debbie Reynolds, Doris Day and the more pronounced sexuality of Rita Hayworth, Lana Turner, Marilyn Monroe, Kim Novak and the smoke rings blown out of the mouth of Lauren Bacall. Katherine Hepburn, Bette Davis and Joan Crawford? Well, they were just tough broads, weren’t they?
Though a number of beauties have come and gone, the beauty and elegance of Grace Kelly and Audrey Hepburn have never dimmed. Perhaps it has to do something in the water along with many of us looking to be with women, or better yet, that one woman with that certain beauty found inside and out.
In today’s maths driven world where way too many settle for financial security, numb emotions, and once having secured a profitable future for services rendered, return to reality and long to renew that past relationship that was detonated along with all those bridges. Kanye and Jamie Foxx are singing “Gold Digger” in my head right now. Hear them?
It takes two to tango and by now the male of the species has moved on and will never accept damaged goods. It might be too late but he has returned to forever and is listening to great love songs from Tin Pan Alley and Lennon and McCartney and Brian Wilson to Leon Russell, Jimmy Webb and Bob Dylan.
It’s a much needed return to romance after a very long lost weekend living a life of the Wolf Of Wall Street with there having been a blur between sex and love. Alcohol and drugs and too much time on one’s hands will do that. But now you’re looking for your Audrey Hepburn, whom you probably already had in your life, but, after suffering from brain freeze, decided to let go of and instead went looking for tainted love and ended up settling for gypsies, tramps, thieves and mongrels. Audrey Hepburn faded to black. She never should have.
The same when it came to choosing those enablers you paid to hang around you- those leeches and creeps and jugglers and clowns who did tricks for you while you knew you were in Desolation Row, but settled there outta habit. And bad habits die hard. But there you stayed until sanity prevailed and the right and real music was playing again.
You just might have met your Audrey Hepburn again. You just might have returned from forever and wherever to who and what really matters and where you can see past the bullshit and the pit bull terriers. You’re back having breakfast at Tiffany’s. Like Jojo, you’re back where you belong: home.
